Creative Fix - The Tea Tray

A preliminary ‘creative re-use’ project to get our creative energy flowing at the beginning of third year....

"The Tea Tray is an extravagant yet simple contraption that elegantly stores and presents everything needed for a cup of tea. The frame, constructed from recycled aluminium test tube racks, is joined at the top using a vintage purse clasp. From this, tea supplies 'float' in an up-cycled plastic tray, attached using reshaped paper clips. This all sits in a base tray, held in place using a set of lightweight metal panels bent into shape. Steel rods run along the base of the trays which are secured through small drilled holes in the aluminium base. These are elemental to the movement of the Tea Tray, allowing the frame to open like a purse and elevate the tea supplies inside. This intriguing dichotomy of elegance and industrialism echoes Park Hill of the sixties. The iconic purse clasp is typical of a sixties housewife whilst the roughed up metal represents the rugged steelworkers."
